At 17 he enlisted in the Army/Air Force and became a meteorologist.  The Army sent him to the University of Minnesota where he met Helen Burton.  He was 20 and Helen was 18 .  They married shortly thereafter.  They had their first child, Susie, the following year.  Jay was overseas in Guam and wasn’t able to see his new baby until she was 8 months old.

After the service he worked for his Dad, Max Gustin at their shoe manufacturing company, called Gustinettes.  He started as a salesman and eventually was the President.  At that point he lived in New Jersey and commuted to NYC>

Jay and Helen had two more children, Diana Kim and Bruce Steven.  In 1953 Jay moved the family to Van Nuys, California and opened his first shoe store in Brentwood called Jay Jordan Shoes.  He eventually opened two more, one in Northridge and the last in Century City.

In the 1970’s Jay decided to go to Law School.  He passed the Bar and opened his law practice in Century City.  He worked until he was in his mid 80’s when he was diagnosed with MCI.

He moved to Silverado Memory Care in September of 2014 and lived there until his death in March 2021.
