The moon was bright and the stars were twinkling in a clear sky when Claude "Stan" Stanford departed this life peacefully, at Los Robles Hospital on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, after hip surgery. He was loved deeply and cherished by the many lives he touched during his long life.
Stan was born in Charlotte, NC. on August 26, 1928 - the only child of Claude Sr. and Nancy. The family moved to California in the 1940's. Stan graduated from San Pedro High School and attended Glendale College. He served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He received a World War II Victory Medal and an Honorable Discharge in 1949.
He met his beloved Janet and they married at the Little Brown Church in Studio City in 1952. They moved to Thousand Oaks from Carpinteria, CA in 1962 with their four children Gary, Amy, Claudia, and Craig. His children all went to Ladera Elementary School and graduated from Thousand Oaks High School.
Stan was a beloved husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, cousin, uncle and had many cherished friends. He traveled to eleven countries with Janet before she passed away in 2007. Stan retired in 1992 from Consolidated Film Industries of Hollywood after a lengthy career in the film industry. In the following years, he enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with his many friends.
Stan is survived by sons; Gary Stanford (Irene) of Woodland Hills, CA, Craig Stanford (Penny) of Tucson, AZ, daughters; Amy (Mick) Toy of Fence Lake, NM, Claudia Stanford of Thousand Oaks, CA, grandchildren; Aidan Stanford (Heather), Casey Stanford, Carly Weston (Brian) of Santa Clarita, Venessa Hiskett of Simi Valley, Darin Toy (Kate) of Portland, OR, Jessica (Dan) Stumberg of Sierra Vista, AZ. Randy and Todd Koszela of Moorpark, CA, John Stanford (Lindsay) of Los Angeles, great-grandchildren; Shea and Laska Stanford, and Hannah and Jocelyn Stumberg, and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at United Methodist Church of Westlake Village, 1049 S. Westlake Boulevard, Westlake Village, CA, 91361 on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 11AM.. Viewing is from 9:30AM to11AM. Interment will follow at Valley Oaks Memorial Park, 5600 Lindero Canyon Rd, Westlake Village, CA 91362.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Stan's name to Assisted Home Hospice, 468 Pennsfield Pl, suite 100, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360.
