John was born in Alberobello, Italy to Damiano and Elisa Mansueto on April 4, 1931. As a child he endured the hardships of World War II and studied in a Monastery during his middle and high school years. He went to college, majoring in Architecture, but just before his graduation he was drafted into the army, so he instead enlisted with the Italian navy where he studied to become an electrical engineer. In 1956, he was stationed at Long Beach Naval Shipyard for a NATO training mission. It was during this time that he met and fell in love with Irene Contreras. He returned to Italy and their love endured, so Irene and her father went to Italy where John and Irene were wed on April 16, 1958. John joined Irene in U. S. shortly after, where they would build a happy life together. In the 1960’s John worked for Singer Librascope in Research and Development and worked on computers, which were utilized for the Apollo missions. He worked in electrical engineering and was an innovator in creating and improving disc drives for computers and other IT industry changing technologies. John had a passion for food, and loved cooking gourmet meals with Irene. He enjoyed making wine, curing olives, canning tomato sauce, and so many other skills reminiscent of his Italian heritage. He also enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and photography. John and Irene were active members of the South Bay Italian Club, and later he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a loving, devoted husband to Irene, wonderful father to his children, Lisa, Joe and Mark, and an inspiration to all who knew him.
John is survived by his children, Lisa (Paul) Burke, Joe (Debbie) Mansueto and Mark (Lisa) Mansueto, grandchildren, Robert (Elena), Jonathan (Grace), Matthew (Erika), Vincent, Katie and Olivia, and great grandchildren Ramona, Ada and Margaret, as well as his siblings, Graciella Mansueto, Angelo (Pat) Mansueto, and Mina Cardone, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irene, parents Damiano and Elisa Mansueto, and brother, Onofrio Mansueto.
