Obituary of John Wolf
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts and a great deal of sadness to announce the unexpected passing of John Edward Wolf on Thursday, February 28, 2013. John was born on February 2, 1936, in Ravenna, Ohio, to Helen and Jacob Wolf, then moved to Los Angeles, California, when he was a year old, and later to Palms, West Los Angeles, Ca.
During his youth, John was a Cub Scout, played violin, piano and won an award in the form of a statuette for outstanding service for 41 months delivering newspapers for the Evening Star News in Culver City, Ca. He was also known for his whistling while delivering the newspapers; he had a happy heart and will be missed for it. John loved making and flying kites. To this day he has several in his trunk just in case the wind happens to blow.
While living in Palms, Ca., John attended Palms Junior High and Hamilton High School, graduating in 1954. Following high school, he was employed by the Pacific Telephone Company. He was called to serve in the Army for 2 years, thirteen months of which were in Korea.
After retiring from Pacific Telephone Company (Ma-Bell) some 30 years ago, John teamed up with retired telephone friends Joe Heaney and Roger Fogleman to continue their expertise with telephone service to outside contractors, and was currently still involved. John considered Joe and Roger as extended family members.
John was very generous with his family and friends and always thought of others before himself. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, and will be remembered flying kites, checking out "Woodie" cars, calling us on our birthdays and just being there for all of us.
John is survived by Patricia Wolf Crosswhite (Saugus), sons Michael Wolf (Palmdale) and Christopher Wolf (spouse Lori and son Josh Upton) (Canyon Country) and grandson Christopher, Jr. (Oxnard); daughter Kim Fitzgerald (spouse John), grandson Conner and granddaughter Isabella (Texas); brother Jerry Wolf (spouse Gail) (Thousand Oaks), nephew David (spouse Stacy) (Simi Valley); niece Susan Guy (spouse Clint), great-nieces Natalie and Sara (Thousand Oaks); sister Marie Milin, nephew Tom (spouse Angela), great niece Noelle and great nephew Ian (Ventura); niece Renee Bruynzeel (spouse Chris), great niece Taylor and great nephew Jake (Newbury Park). After a 27 year relationship with the love of his life, Larene Ross, who passed 10 years ago, John is survived by Scott Ross (spouse Sara) and four boys.
A celebration of John's life will be held on March 8, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Bridge Church, 999 Rancho Conejo Blvd, Newbury Park, Ca, 91320, telephone (805) 262-5000. In lieu of flowers, and since John donated to so many charities, the family would prefer you donate to your favorite charity in honor of John Edward Wolf.
