Obituary of Douglas Gordon

Another star shines brighter in the night sky as one of the world's beloved person has left this world. Douglas J. Gordon passed away on Sunday, July 21st, 2013. Born in Glendale, California on April 20, 1942, he was the eldest son of a businessman. Raised with an ingrained sense of dedication and duty, he dropped out of high school to join the Navy, after the attack on Pearl .Harbor. He served his country in the Pacific until the end of the war. Shortly after the war he met and married Joyce Vandenberg. They remained married until her passing 62 years later They had three daughters and raised and helped countless others. Dedication to family was the core of their marriage. Doug was an exceptional craftsman and technician. He became a machinist, mechanic, carpenter and refrigeration technician. Together with his wife, he used his skills to build and run a business in the automotive industry. Always wanting to keep busy, Doug never slowed down for retirement. He was instrumental in social,travel and volunteer support organizations. He was always willing.to give a hand where needed. He was gone on the follow the path of his wife, Joyce and two daughters, Diana and Jacqueline who went before him. He is survived by his daughter Jill. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and vast family and friends that his life touched . The world was a better place for his having been in it and he will be missed dearly. A Memorial services will be held at Rose Funeral Home, Simi Valley (4444 Cochran St. (805) 581 3800) on Wednesday, August 7th at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to local senior citizens centers and returning veterans support organizations will be appreciated in spirit of the man who gave so much.
