Obituary of Fritz Bystrom

Frederick C Bystrom also known as Fritz, age 61, of Simi Valley, California passed away on August 21, 2013 after a valiant battle with cancer. Fritz was born in Minneapolis, MN on February 26, 1952. He lived in Washington D.C., and Honolulu, Hawaii. He has resided 35 years in Ventura County, of which 28 years were spent in Simi Valley. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Hawaii and attended Pepperdine Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctorate degree. He practiced law as a civil litigator for 30 years with his last employer being Early, Maslach & O'Shea of Farmers Insurance in Los Angeles. Fritz served our country honorably as Lt. Colonel with the U.S. Marine Corps for 29 years. He served in Civil Affairs in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Iraq during 2003. Fritz took great pride in being a Marine Corps Officer, establishing many long term friendships. Fritz had the ability to engage in conversations over a variety of topics, history being his favorite. To know Fritz, you would have enjoyed his intelligence, good manners, kindness, and humor. He will be greatly missed by all. Fritz is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Liz Corona Bystrom, along with his children - John (14) and Catherine (9). Engaging in long conversations with his children filled his heart with pride and love. He is also survived by his mother Ann Bystrom of Honolulu, brothers Eric Bystrom and Ben Bystrom of Honolulu, and brother Andrew Bystrom of Eagle Rock, California along with their families. A Mass and celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church 5649 Pittman St, Simi Valley, California 93063. A reception will be held at the same location immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, account # 325023177721 has been established at Bank of America for the benefit of his children.
