I met Catherine when she became my co-worker at a film production company. The first contact I had with her was her writing, which astonished me. I was blown away by her brilliance the day I met her, which I remember like it was yesterday. I can still see her, the tan chair she sat in, the glow from the skylight on her face. She was quick-witted and easy to talk to. She could converse on any subject but especially movies, literature and politics, though music and the Coachella line-up that year were the first thing we talked about. It was so refreshing just to know her and hear what she was thinking on any given day. And damn was she funny. She always made me laugh. In the years after she moved on from that job, we became closer, only seeing each other occasionally but regularly having three hour conversations on the phone, sometimes daily. She was one of the few people who I could tell anything, things I hid from others, hid from myself. She helped me through difficult times in my life with so much grace and generosity of spirit. She had so much insight about the world and so much to give. I loved her dearly and will cherish my memories of her.
