This tribute is to a dear friend Mr. Charles Ray Coleman whom I've come to know, and love as an intelectual colleague and respect for his farsightedness, vision and love for education. At times, he would remain on the school, premises and would sometimes walk beside me until a point where I chose to hike up the hill all the way to the J/K units. We would often meet again at the base of the pedestrians walk by probations movement control and will sometimes walk side by side each other to the parking lot after he had diligently remained behind to ensure that the parts of the plan, the BJN RTSA ELA/SS unit plan was ready for publishing after ensuring that all the little pieces were fused together into a coherent whole along with the relevant resources and graphic organizers.
He took his role as the Chair of the ELA/SS department seriously and was undeniably the favorite of many. A moderately mannered individual. A Sweet, Sweet, Sweet, indeed!!. He will always be missed by those he allowed come close as well as those who knew him from afar. Even when I attempted talking him out of retiring, he refused. He had made up his mind which couldn't be changed.
He was very proud of his wife and two children. When we both worked in Rm. 21, he would tell me about his daughter who was a professional working with a national cooperation responsible for the training and delivery of service dogs to people who had suffered from Trauma, PTSD, Epilepsy etc.
He was rarely upset. He always walked with a quite dignity about him, rarely angry but a fighter for his beliefs.

Mr Coleman was a colleague and a good friend of mine. We worked together at the Juvenile Hall school and spent a lot of time together doing curriculum planning for the History/social studies team. We agreed on so many issues except for our political ideas and referred to each other as 'friendenemy'. We had so much fun doing this and talking about politics.
Charles was a good family man and I admired him for this. He was a responsible and dependable worker also.
I will surely miss his smile and his positive attitude to life
Rest in perfect peace my 'friendenemy' till we meet to part no more.

Charles Coleman, Jr. was a friend of mine since 2004, when he and I were both active in a club supporting Dennis Kucinich for president. But Charles was a leader, and while I was just a member of the group, he took charge and presided over it, keeping us active and focused.
We remained friends throughout the years since then, mostly talking on the phone about political issues, but also about our families, work, trips, and our creative endeavors.
I knew Charles Coleman, Jr. as an intelligent, principled, thoughtful, creative, open-minded, and socially responsible person.
He was dedicated to making this world a better place, and he has succeeded, with his lovely family, his teaching career, his writing, his campaigns in running for Congress, and his principled stands in speaking out on social and political issues of importance.
Charles lived a good life, loved and respected by the many people whose lives were richly enhanced by his presence here.
He will be sorely missed by me, and by countless others.
With love,
Michele Hutchins
