I just remember Mom always being there for me as I struggled through life in my 20’s. She was someone I could always talk to as I had to work through the hard times of supporting myself as I went to college to get my degree and my divorce at the time. She was a voice of comfort and wisdom. I eventually found my way and married Tess who has been my love and supportive partner these past years since October 10, 1998. Mom loved Tess a lot. Here is Mom and I at that day many years ago.

I remember throwing my dad Sean his 50th birthday party. We decided to have it in Palmdale at my dad’s house that I was renting as it would be closer for the family making the drive. We have a BIG family and I wasn’t sure who would be able to attend. I was very excited to hear some of my aunts, uncles, and grandma was coming and it really was the best surprise I could have ever given my dad. I loved that I was able to get that one on one time with grandma that I had missed for so many years. We had a lot of catching up to do. Honestly I feel like she worried about everyone all the time and she was there for me when I needed help. I think when you grow older you just want to hear that everyone is doing ok. I wish I spent more time with her. I am so proud of the family I come from and will miss her so much. I know she’s where she wants to be now, with our Lord. I love you Grandma. Give grandpa a big hug from Jennica and Jessifer! Love you all!

As one of JoAnn's son-in-laws, her and I always had a special relationship over my 32 years of marriage to her daughter Erin. As far back as I can remember we often found ourselves sharing thoughts and experiences regarding spiritual subjects, most often about God in Christ. She always displayed a keen insight into the nature of 'people', the world, and especially things not of this world. In the earlier years of my own spiritual development, she served as a great inspiration to me. Later on, we always seemed to have the same view of things, a part of our relationship I treasured then, and even more so now. When my own mother passed away nine years ago, I immediately, and quite naturally, 'adopted' JoAnn as my own mother. I believe she understood that 'adoption' and ever since then treated me as one of her own. The last time I visited with her, on her way to bed one night, she stopped in front of me as I sat on the couch and told me as much before saying good night. I will miss Mom - her smile, her gentle touch, her kind words. However, I do know that those that have gone before us are always with us. I know Mom is, and always will be for those who loved her and those she loved so dearly - her children. Erin took a photo of Mom last Thanksgiving, which captures wonderfully the essence of Mom's beautiful countenance that she maintained in all the years I knew her.
