Obituary of Patricia Shiver

Patricia "Pat" Dale Shiver, a devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother was called home to the arms of the Lord suddenly on Friday, February 28th, 2014 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile collision in Simi Valley, CA. She was 70 years old. Pat, as she was fondly known, was a native Californian born the 13th day of September 1943, the daughter of the late Richard Hiatt and Betty Owen. She met her husband Phil Shiver in Van Nuys, CA and they were married on July 6th, 1963. Pat was a warm hearted, soft spoken, peaceful and deeply spiritual person who always helped those in need. She gave freely of her time to various volunteer organizations in her local community. She was a "mom" to all those who crossed the threshold of her Box Canyon home including nieces, nephews and local neighborhood kids who would still come "home" to visit her often. She was a lover of all animals with whom she clearly had a natural ease and a special bond with. She enjoyed taking care of her horse, her many burros, chickens, dogs and cats throughout the years. Pat tirelessly managed the family business of "being Phil Shiver" for the past 51 years while being a dedicated Mom and a God-loving Episcopalian. Much of her recent activities revolved around her church St. Francis of Assisi of which she was an integral part. Pat found refuge at St. Francis and she truly enjoyed fellowship with her many cherished friends there. She participated in numerous church functions including the annual Women's retreat, the Altar Guild, the Daughters of the King, the Episcopalian Church Women and was a board member for the Samaritan Center of Simi Valley. Pat celebrated her heritage as a dedicated member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and enjoyed hobbies such as traveling, her Jazzercise club, creating stained glass pieces, restoring her pride and joy 1930 Model A Ford Sedan with her husband Phil and their local Model A clubs. Pat was also an avid Dodger fan and enjoyed family outings to Dodger home games. She is survived by her husband Phil Shiver, her sons John Shiver and Todd Shiver, her sister Stephanie Operacz and her brother Dave Viney. A celebration of Pat's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday March 15th, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 280 Royal Ave. Simi Valley, CA 93065.
