Obituary of Nancy Kleveland
Please share a memory of Nancy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Nancy's middle name could just as aptly have been "Caring." Born in San Diego to Alan and Elizabeth McCutcheon, her empathy for all creatures stretched from her first parakeet Algernon, through early jobs as a counselor and working with the developmentally disabled, to her dream job as the back office nurse caring for patients in an Ojai family practice for twenty plus years.
Graduating from Point Loma High School in 1967, she met her husband-to-be, Ken, the next year when both worked at Camp Marston. Ken and Nancy married in 1970 and moved to Santa Paula three years later, where their son Kris and daughter Ashley were born. Volunteering at the preschool co-op and participating in the Junior Ebell Club provided Nancy with important friendships, not to mention raucous Bunco games. Once the kids were safely in school, Nancy found the perfect expression of her care and concern for others with Dr. Ken Hartenstein's Ojai patients.
Nancy even turned coping with cancer over the last four years into an opportunity to care for others—all the people who saw to her wellbeing. She listened to them, knew about their lives and families and heartily wished the best for them. Her family is especially grateful for Dr. Scott Eisenkop, his staff and all the wonderful people at Los Robles Regional Medical Center.
In addition to her husband, Ken Kleveland, Nancy is survived by her son, Kristian, daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Tom Furlong, and sisters, Laurie Berg, Julie McCutcheon and Libby Levine, brother-in-law Dan Levine and Nancy's nieces, Michelle Norris and Melinda Dworkin, and nephew Max Levine.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 3, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of the Epiphany, 5450 Churchwood Drive, Oak Park, California.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Home of Guiding Hands, www.guidinghands.org.
Our lives are the richer for having known and been loved by her.
