Dear Janet and Family,
I was greatly saddened to learn of Don's passing. Time passes, but our memories continue. We all have such good memories of our time at the Van Nuys Research Lab. We had such a great "family" there. We all send our condolences and wish you all the best for the future.
Don was already working in the Evap group when I was moved to that group. We had many products on storage tests to evaluate and Don was the one who made our evaluations possible. After he moved over to Data Entry and Analysis we continued working together using the computer to generate product formulas. And Janet you helped with the analytical analysis. That is a part of our past.
Now everyone help Janet to learn e-mail and then she can be a more active member of the Alumni Family.

Dear Nickels Family,
I was so sorry today to hear of the passing of Don, beloved husband, father, and grandfather. To the St. Gen's community, the Nickels were a cornerstone of St. Gen's even before I started teaching at the elementary school in 1979.
Their support certainly helped me during my 8 years at the elementary and high schools. Don was especially helpful during my coaching tenure. I am proud that I did get to teach and coach David. And enjoyed seeing him sell his allotment of chocolates by using his adorable younger brother Tommy as his selling point!
Every time I talked with Don, I learned, and I am so grateful for his friendship.
With sincere good wishes,
Pete Cassidy

You can shed tears that he is gone,
Or you can smile because he lived,
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back,
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him
Or you can be full of the love that you shared,
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him and only that he is gone
Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on,
You can cry and close your mind be empty and turn your
back,
Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes,
love and go on.

Dear Janet,
My heart-felt condolences to you and your family. I worked with your husband at the Nestle Research Center in Van Nuys. I was part of the nutrition department and Don was instrumental in helping us establish a nutrition database. Don was smart, kind, and always willing to help.
With deepest sympathy,
Dawn Hosford

Dear Janet and Family,.
Helen and I are deeply saddened by the news of Don's passing and wish to extend our sincere condolences at this time of sorrow.
I think that Don and I both began working at Carnation Research in 1960 and we were both in the Analytical Department for a while. Don eventually transferred to the Evap. Department where he worked with Sid Pearce who got Don into computers. Then his career zoomed upward. He also was instrumental in getting the Analytical Department "computerized"
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Sincerely,
Dave Sakai

Janet and family. My deepest condolences for your loss. Yet, we rejoice and celebrate all that Don contributed to the community and the profession. He was a wonderful person whom we shall not forget. It was a personal and professional pleasure to have the opportunity to work with Don during the Carnation / Nestle years. May Don rest peacefully in His loving arms.
