Roswitha "Rose" Apel
Rose Apel passed away peacefully at her home in Simi Valley on 5 April 9, 2012 following a two-year battle with cancer.
She was born Roswitha 10 Gertrude Schenk to Clara and Joseph Schenk on April 3, 1941 in Heidelberg Germany. She grew up in Karlsruhe Germany then 15 studied at the Sorbonne in Paris before coming to the US in 1963. Here she met her husband of 46 years Lothar Apel, also a native 20 of Germany. They moved to Simi Valley in 1970 and raised three daughters: Patricia "Patti" Apel, Heidi Hidalgo and Nicole Apel. 25
A devout Roman Catholic, she was an active member of the St. Rose of Lima parish for 42 years. Rose 30 served on the Bereavement Committee and Ladies of Charity, volunteered at the carnival, bingo nights and Christmas bazaar, managed 35 the Octoberfest, and sang in choir. Rose was a generous philanthropist to many Catholic charities She was also a member 40 of Opus Dei.
She worked at Farmer's Insurance for 20 years before retiring in 2006. 45
Rose was a beloved sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed. 50 She touched the hearts of all who knew her and leaves her family and friends to continue her legacy of compassion 55 and kindness to everyone. She is preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters Antonia Schenk and Dr. Luzi 60 Schenk. Her husband, daughters, three grand- children and her brother Elmar Dreikluft of Stuttgart Germany, survive Rose. 65
