Obituary of Joseph Evans Jr.

Joseph Benjamin Evans, Jr., 73, of Simi Valley, CA, passed away on March 16, 2017. Joseph was born in Poteau, Oklahoma to Joseph Evans Sr. and Maxine Choate Evans on May 7, 1943. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Cal State Fullerton. He excelled in his career, spanning over 50 years, in chemistry and retired as Chief Chemist at Specialty Coatings Chemical Company in 2016. Joseph joined Simi Valley Second Missionary Baptist Church in 1987 and was ordained a Deacon in 2003. He served two terms as President of The Gideons International-Simi Valley/Moorpark camp. He was invited to many churches to share the Gideon message and raise funds to provide bibles all over the world. Joseph dedicated his life to his family and was a devoted husband and loving father. He was married for 49 years to wife Florine and raised two daughters. He was an amazing cook, had a witty sense of humor and chronicled the last 50 years of his life in journals. He is loved and admired for his dedication to his field of chemistry, developing cutting edge technology in water based coatings; his love of family and friends and his willingness to show the love of God Joseph is survived by his wife, Florine Evans, and two daughters, Catherine Evans and Caroline Gibson, son-in-law Nolan Gibson Jr. and four grandchildren, Steven Joseph Kemp, Naomi Gibson, Nolan Gibson III and Natalie Gibson. He is also survived by four brothers, Veichal, Talce, Cole and Richard Evans and one sister, Sabrina Evans, along with a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Evans; father, Joseph Evans Sr. and brother, Kenneth Evans. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Simi Second family and many friends for their condolences, kindness and prayers.
